Home Economics
My Home Economics class will focus on practical, hands-on life skills such as cooking, baking, laundry, sewing, cleaning, hygiene, nutrition, hospitality, and money basics.
My goal is to help students become more capable, confident, and independent while learning that caring for a home is really about caring for the people God has placed in our lives.
Meet the Teacher
Melissa Rhoads
I have always had a heart for nurturing others. As a mother of four daughters and grandmother of four, much of my life has centered around creating a loving, welcoming home.
I earned my Dental Assistant degree from Flint Hills Technical College in Emporia and have worked on and off in the dental field for about 40 years, taking time away from my career to stay home and raise my girls.
To me, nurturing involves all five senses—the smell of something baking, the taste of a favorite recipe, the sound of laughter, the sight of a welcoming home, and the comfort of something made with loving hands.
Above all, my faith in Jesus Christ is at the center of my life. I believe my family is one of God’s greatest gifts, and I hope to use the gifts and experiences He has given me to encourage and teach others.
