Children's Literature
Explore classic children's books through lively read-aloud, art, games, and hands-on activities. Talk about characters and settings, retell favorite moments, and connect stories to everyday experiences. Practice listening, taking turns, and sharing ideas while discovering new words. Drawing, storytelling, and imaginative play help children express what they understand, build early reading confidence, and grow a love of books.
Meet the Teacher

Dana Byers
My name is Dana Byers, and I’m excited to teach Children’s Literature in our Electives program! I have worked with children for the past 20 years, serving in our school district as a Title I reading para, supporting students through MTSS reading intervention, and working as the elementary school librarian. I currently serve at RISE as Co-Director of the Electives Program and Director of Middle School. My faith and love for God guide both my personal life and my work with others, inspiring me to serve with compassion, integrity, and purpose. Reading and children’s books have always been close to my heart, and I’m thrilled to return to teaching and share that love with young, beginning book lovers.
